Mining Facebook for leads-
Posting to Groups
In this “modern” computer era more and more home business owners are turning to the internet to forage for prospects, leads, customers and hopefully sales. One of the most popular and frankly easy to use sources for leads is posting to groups on Facebook. With almost 1.6 Billion active users, and over 1 billion users per day, Facebook is a veritable goldmine. Your customers are there somewhere. The challenge is finding them. I am offering a free webinar on what's working now on Facebook. Check it out.
Social Media is Social
Before we get too far into posting to groups on Facebook, I want to issue a gentle reminder: social media is meant to be social. People do not come to Facebook looking for a business opportunity or looking to buy something. If they want to make a purchase, they go to Amazon or E Bay. If they are looking for a business, they Google it.
People come to Facebook to be social, to make friends, to show off pictures of their children or grandchildren, their vacation or favorite restaurant or recipe. They do not expect to be pitched with offers, sales letters, capture pages or spam. But you say, there are groups that do nothing but post offers. Yes there are. And these are called spam groups for good reason. Nobody is paying attention to anybody else, they are just spamming each other. This is not a way to build a long term sustainable business.
Finding The Right Group(s)
As I said, your customer is there on Facebook somewhere, but where? There are groups for everything. There are groups for health and wellness, fitness, travel, SCUBA Diving, sailing etc. You can use the Facebook search function to find groups that you might be interested in. Go to the Facebook search bar and type “your interest” groups and see what pops up. So for example one thing I might type is “Scuba Diving Groups” and a plethora of groups on Facebook appear. You will be amazed at what you find.
Now it is time to do a little research. Join a few groups on facebook and check them out. See how active the group is, get to know the group administrator and become a friend. That will be important later on when you want to message someone in the group.
Posting in Your Groups On Facebook
So now that you have found the best groups on Facebook for you (and you have done at least a little research to find the groups you are comfortable with) it is time to begin to develop a relationship with members of the group. The next step is to familiarize yourself with the groups rules and follow them. Most groups will not tolerate commercial posts nor should you.
DO NOT post Links To Your Business Opportunity. Groups on Facebook are like parties. You wouldn’t walk into a party at a friend’s house and start blasting away with a megaphone about your business and you do not want to do that in the groups either.
Post valuable content. Become an active member in the Facebook group. Comment on other people’s posts, invite people to “like” your fan page, and post videos and articles that contain the type of valuable content that group members are interested in.
So the bottom line is use the groups on Facebook as they are intended, as a forum to meet people and make friends and pretty soon you will have lots of people to talk to. Just remember to take the business conversation off line.
